New charm necklaces!

I'm so excited to share...

I just listed these adorable charm necklaces in my etsy shop!  They are just too cute!  Delicate, light and airy!  

This is a charm I've been on the hunt for for a long time!  It's a delicate and tiny three dimensional rhodium plated skull charm.  Yes, skull!  I love it because it's so tiny and discreetly elegant.  From far away, it looks like a little circle charm but close up, you discover it's a skull!  I say it's the perfect gift for a teenager or any skull-lover, like me!

Custom Name Necklaces

I'm happy to share some custom name necklaces that I recently had ordered on my etsy site...

Name necklaces are done in sterling silver, gold filled or argentium (anti-tarnish) sterling silver.  They can be further customized with your choice of stones...all names are handmade by me free form!  

When doing a custom necklace, I always do a copper "mock-up" like the one below.  The AnneMarie necklace was ordered by someone for their niece.  I send my customer a picture (with a ruler, so they know approximately how big it will be) of the copper mock up for approval.  Once they give the okay and/or any changes made, I make it in the precious wire.

Here's necklaces I did for two sisters (ages 10 and 5).  They were so happy with them and their mother reports to me that they wear them everyday.  She loves it because they are affordable and she doesn't have to worry about them losing it, but they are still sterling silver and won't turn their necks green.  Stephanie's is done with dark amethyst and Samantha's are done with pale pink freshwater pearls.

This necklace was made for a 20-30 something year old =) who wears it proudly and totally loves her custom creation!  Stones are labradorite.

New! Rose Sculpture Jewelry

For one of my best friend's wedding this past October, I designed these simple and modern rose sculpture (scribble?) earrings!  Her theme was roses and her colors were red and gold, so I thought it was appropriate!  These sets are what the bridesmaids wore.  All materials are gold filled with semi precious stones.

I think they came out so much better than I was expecting!  Her wedding was simple and elegant and I wanted earrings that wouldn't be too over the top or "bridesmaid-ey" and I think they came out very well.  Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Sea Glass Necklace and earrings

My sister-in-law and her family go to Hawaii every year for vacation.  Her husband decided to collect some sea glass from the beach (secretly, and even got a sunburn doing it) and brought it back for me to design some jewelry around it to commemorate their vacation.   Isn't that sweet of him?

He gave me a huge bag of shells and glass to sift through...it was pretty heavy and I can't believe he brought that all back!  What a great idea, though!

My sister-in-law loves matching sets, so I set out to make a necklace and earring set for her.  First I tried to find pieces that either matched relatively well or I thought could go together.  Plus, color was important, too.

Of course, I do not have a drill, so I had to decide how to best wire wrap the glass.  I used 28 gauge half hard sterling silver wire.  I think this looks best with sea glass because the holes that get drilled in the piece are so large and sometimes crack the glass.

But here it is!  My final result!  Tell me what you think!

Hawaiian sea glass and freshwater pearl in sterling silver earrings

Freshwater pearl and hawaiian sea glass necklace with delicate double strand sterling silver chain:  I found three pieces that were sort of triangular shaped and I thought would look pretty as part of a necklace instead of a pendant type.  And to add some interest, I doubled the delicate chain and added another bounty of the sea - freshwater pearls.

Here's the wrap in a little more detail:  I never realized how difficult it would be to wrap it in a pretty manner, but I think I'm hooked!

and the back with an extender, of course! and a little sea shell i found in the bag that already had a convenient hole in it  =)

and here's what they look like on...soooo pretty and I love how personal it is!

Last Agate Piece

A while ago, I featured some of my agate necklaces.  I am happy (and sad) to report that I only have 1 agate piece left!  They were quite popular!

This last one is slightly translucent and has a great white swirly pattern to it with a hint of brown.  Measure 1.75 inches by 1.4 inches and is slightly faceted at the edges.  

Here's how I wear my agate - on a 30" doubled gold filled chain with a gold plated leaf charm.  

If you liked my agate pieces, stay tuned!  I've managed to get my hand on large pieces of african cape amethysts!  Should make great looking pendants, too!

Druzy Agate

I recently got in some lovely mystic druzy agate pieces.  I think they are the perfect mix of sparkly and feminine yet still retain an organic, rough edge.  

What is druzy agate?  It is agate with a fine layer of quartz crystal coating it.  Usually found on the inside of a crevice of the natural agate, it forms when water with minerals seeps into the base stone.

These are pretty small, measuring no more than 1 inch long so they make very unusual pendants.

Custom Name Necklaces

My latest love is making customized name necklaces out of sterling silver or gold filled wire.  

It started off as a joke when I saw earrings with someone's name written in it.  I told my friend I would make her those and we laughed about it.  But after I went home, I started seriously thinking about it.  This is the first one I made.   I practiced by making her a copper wire bracelet, first.  It's gold filled and has clear quartz crystals at each end and in the "o" of the "posvar"

Fast forward and I think my script has definitely improved and gotten a little more refined.   It's hard to tell, but the one below is actually SMALLER than the one above.  This is the last one I did for a client.  His daughter liked it so much, he ordered one for all his daughters and step-daughters.  

This one is in sterling silver with dark amethysts.  These are all made free hand and I use needle nose pliers, which I recently upgraded to a smaller, thinner model for more precision.  

Mother's Day pendant

It's been quite a while since I last posted - I finally got a new computer!  I had been borrowing my husband's laptop all this time and I have finally got my own.  Makes me so happy that I decided I was going to re-energize and start posting all the stuff that I had meant to.

This was a 3 pearl pendant that I had designed with my sister-in-law in mind.  She was pregnant with her third child at the time (she has all boys).  She loves pearls, and if one's great, three must be better, right?  These are approximately 9-10 mm each and are a dark grey peacock color.  I have been unable to find freshwater pearls as nice as these since.

Agate necklaces

This piece was my first foray into larger pieces.  When I first bought stones, I was very hesitant to buy large, bulky pieces.  First of all, because not only are they more expensive, but I thought there was a lot less you could do with them.  I happened upon this agate strand that was just beautiful in color with stones that were faceted and had rough edges.  I LOVE pieces of stones that are slightly rough cut but with some sort of faceting or buffing to pretty it up a bit.  Here is a picture of my first agate drop piece.  It sits on a long 36" double sterling silver chain (for strength, since the stone is quite heavy).

I wore the above stone to work and it was a huge hit!  I think out of the 8 or so original piece, I only have two left.  The top picture was a custom request that someone wanted with a cluster of clear quartz at the top.

kristin baby necklace

My friend, Kristin was pregnant - let me preface this exciting news by saying from all the girls I still communicate and see from highschool, she is the first!  Needless to say, we were all very excited to throw her a fantastic baby shower.  Since I started making jewelry, I had been dying to try my hand at making some sort of baby inspired necklace, bracelet or earrings.  I really didn't want it to be cheesy or cartoony. 
I was playing with a paperclip at work and realized how simple the design was.  I started thinking about safety pins and after many many trials, here's what I came up with.  I think it looks pretty good.  She had a boy so I added white pearls to it, because I thought it needed something extra and was much to plain by itself.

Since the white version did so well, I decided I wanted one more color. For anyone who knows me, my favorite colors are white, black, blue and grey. I love how the grey of these freshwater pearls have a subtle lavendar in them. I gave one to my sister-in-law for Christmas.

I think it was around Christmas time that word of my jewelry making was spreading. I had since put up pictures in my picasa web album - mostly as my own documentation. People I had never really spoken to before were starting to come up to me to ask about ordering jewelry! Then they were asking me if I had a catalog or a website. When i showed them my pitiful web album, they then started asking me to add prices! This kind of pushed me further into selling jewelry and I got a ton of orders for Christmas. I started naming my jewlery after the first person who purchased an item.

The necklace that started it all

This is the necklace that launched me into selling my jewelry. I was inspirted to make it when I was browsing a boutique store and saw a necklace that was relatively similar. I was shocked at how much they were asking for fake pearls and non-precious metal. I thought to myself that I could make that! This was my interpretation and I wore it to work (all proud of myself) and one of my colleagues (Emily) made a comment that she liked my necklace. I blushed and told her I made it myself. She promptly asked me if I could make three more...

This is approximately 36 inches long and sterling silver and freshwater pearls. I like that it's long because it can be worn long or doubled like in the picture and worn short. =)
